Let’s get started!
But before jumping to the keyword research tips let’s first understand what keyword research is.
What Is A Keyword In Research?
If I simply define what a keyword is, it is just a phrase that people use to search for anything on search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
For example, I typed the keyword “propaganda of advertising” and got results in SERP.
This keyword is a phrase that I used to get results like this in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). This is exactly how a keyword works. If your page is perfectly optimized for a particular keyword, it will rank for that keyword for sure! You must choose the right keyword for your page, website, or blog to improve your SEO game.
Without right keyword, you will never be able to rank your page on SERP.
Let me show you an SEO keyword example:
I searched for a keyword, “propaganda of advertising,” in the Google SERP and got so many results. And surprisingly, as you can see, one of my blogs is ranked No.1. Not only No.1 but it ranked at featured snippet which is even better than position No.1.
So, I hope you must have understood the importance of keyword strategy for SEO.
Now, let’s understand what keyword research is.
In simple words, keyword research is the gathering of the right keywords per your niche that people are using in Search Engines to search for relevant information.
It is to help you see what keywords people are searching for and what you should add to your content.
The good thing is that there are lots of tools available on the market to help you with keyword research, like Ahrefs- the keyword explorer, Google Keyword Planner, and many other keyword research tools.
Why Is Keyword Research Important?
Now, the question that might be buzzing around in your mind is, “But, why the hell is keyword research so important?”
And this is quite apparent also. It is important because a targeted keyword can provide you with insight into the query that your target audience may use. This insight can give you a roadmap for the content strategy of your website.
Also, the top results on Google get the most traffic 49% of the time. If you also want this much traffic to your own website, you must be able to rank No. 1 on Google SERP.
Keywords are strategically placed on the web pages to get them ranked higher. So, to get more traffic to your web page, it is important to have good SEO keyword research done. Therefore, you should be targeting those keywords that users are searching for on Google or any other search engine.
So, this all starts with proper SEO keyword research.
There are some benefits of keyword research mentioned below:
Elements Of Keyword Research
So now I am getting started with the basics of keyword research. There are 3 elements to keyword research that you need to understand. These are the things you need to do keyword research by keeping in mind.
Relevance
The thing that you need to understand is that Google gives rankings on the basis of relevance to the user query. The more your content is relevant to the user, the higher it will rank. So, make sure you find the relevant keyword and write relevant content about it.
Keyword Difficulty
Keyword difficulty is something that you can find in any keyword research tool like Ahrefs – the keyword explorer or SEMrush.
Let me show you an example from the Ahrefs tool.
Basically, KD represents the competition for that particular keyword. This means that the higher the KD, the more websites will compete for that keyword.
But, no worries. We would help you dominate the competition. I am going to give you some keyword strategies for SEO that would help you stand out in the SERPs.
Volume
Volume represents the number of searches for that particular keyword in a month. The higher the volume, the more people are searching for that keyword.
And of course, it is a very important element for keyword research reason being, you may rank for any keyword in SERP, but what’s the point of a ranking if nobody is searching for that keyword?
So, it is important you check the volume before you choose the keyword to target.
How To Find Keywords For Your Website
This is also a part of keyword research Tips. You have understood the basic elements of keyword research. Now, the next thing that you need to understand is how to find keywords for your website.
I have divided organic keyword research into two parts, which I am going to discuss in detail along with examples.
Keyword Research Is Divided Into Two Parts:
- Discover The Keywords
- Choose The Best Keyword
Discover The Keywords
Discovering the keywords is the phase of coming up with the ideas for keywords.
The problem here is that sometimes people don’t understand what they should blog about. What type of keyword should they choose?
Sometimes they choose keywords that have high volume, thinking that they will get high traffic. But this doesn’t happen like that. Other times, they end up choosing keywords that don’t have very high volume.
You can start by choosing keywords relevant to your niche.
Let’s understand it further.
To perform keyword research, you first need to get a keyword research tool. To elaborate in detail on keyword research for SEO, I am going to use Ahrefs- the keyword explorer.
i. Keyword Research Tools

Choose The Best Keyword
So, now you already know what kinds of tools are available on the market. It’s a big problem about how you choose the best keyword as per your niche and requirements.
No worries! I am here to help you.
To get the best keyword, you must know the intent of the keyword and the intent of the content you are going to create.
The intent is to understand what a user is trying to search for with that particular keyword.
When you understand the intent of the keyword, you can choose the best keyword.
Let me show you an example,
Suppose I want to write about “how to do keyword research,” so the intent of this keyword is, the user wants to know the whole process of performing keyword research. The user doesn’t know much about keyword research, so you must target keywords relevant to the information that he needs.
Keyword Research Tips
Till now, you have learned about the elements of keyword research along with how to find keywords for your website or blog.
Now, it’s time to learn some tips for keyword research so that you can make your blog or website rank higher in Google SERP.
So, let’s get started with some keyword research tips.
Do competitor Research
Of course, when you are trying to write a new blog, you probably don’t know what keywords you should target. keep up with what’s trending nowadays.
So, in this case, you can do one thing, and that is to perform competitor research.
To perform a keyword research competitor analysis is not very much difficult. You can use tools like SEMrush and Ahrefs.
Let me show you how you would do that. I am showing you with the help of the tool, Ahrefs. With this tool, you can easily find what keywords your competitors are ranking on.
Just start with a website. Find your competitors’ blog posts or websites that are ranked on Google SERP.
I have taken one of my blog posts just to show you a demo.
“Types Of Propaganda Used In Advertising”
I entered this website into the tool and received the information that I needed.
And look at all the data and information I received.
And this is not finished here. I received the data about the performance and traffic status.
The tool has provided me with the backlinks this blog has along with the organic keywords it is ranking for and the organic traffic it receives per month.
With the help of the tool, I can get the list of the other additional keywords it is ranking on and apply them to my blog.
So, it always good to go with the competitor analysis before you go on writing a page or blog post for your website. It is a part of keyword research.
Find Variation Keywords
So, now you have the list of keywords that you are going to target, but there are other important keywords that you need to target too, and those are keyword variations. These are the keywords that come in between the content and relevant to the target keyword.
For example, let’s say you are writing about the Apple iPhone. So, your content could have some keywords like “Steve Jobs,” “Iphone-12”, “CEO of Apple,” etc.
These keyword variations are the keywords Google uses to determine if the content is relevant to the title and the target keyword.
So, you must use your keyword variations carefully. It can also help you exceed the number of keywords you are going to target and improve your rankings.
Even if your target keyword has higher competition, you can still aspire to rank for your additional keywords.
To make it more clear to you, let me show you another example. The image below would help you better understand the keyword variations.
Now, the question that arises here is, how would you find the keyword variations to rank higher in SERPs? Well, no worries. You will find the keyword variations from the same tool you found the target keywords.
